I guess I could do what yank did and cut off the bolted flange and weld on a V-band.

Yank called up BW and asked exactly what the composition of the turbine housing was and got some exotic filler to mate the V-band to the turbine housing.

I wonder if the lathe at work has a 4 jaw chuck....I should look around. Does the inlet have to be round?

Would someone please invent an open ended air wrench. Putting on copper lock nuts with a box wrench sucks.

as long as the flange has the required material to contain the minimum necessary size v band, i dont see why not. its not ideal though for obvious reasons, thats a decent sized step. you may be able to transition it a little.

That's not actually a relevant picture.

Can I reuse lock nuts? The new ones are too ******* hard to turn in the space I'm working in. I can get to all but 2 with a socket. And an open ended wrench isn't cutting it when I'm reaching under the turbo.

If the reason you want to reuse the old locknuts is because they're easier to turn, then they aren't going to lock any more. So basically no.

The way the car's put together, there really isn't any alternative to an open end wrench for a bunch of the turbo-to-manifold-or-downpipe nuts. Having a stubby open-end wrench helps.

The relief cut has already closed up....I should have cut it bigger....manifold will be off again. No time soon though. I budgeted like 3 hours for it all. And it took like 9. So many hard to reach holes.

After watching somone lose a corksport muffler on the track I made up my own extra super duty hangar. 4.5 inch exhaust clamp. Some rebar. Some red paint. I took a leaf out of Abe's book and made my own hangar by putting a bead of weld around the tip of the rebar.
