Just as a data point, the below setup (different car, identical setup) made 170rwkw at 15psi, on a 1.6L, with RX8 injectors, MSPnP2, and a 2" exhaust. The downpipe on that car is the same, 3" for as far as possible, bullet cat and smooth neck down to 2"

Same turbo location on the log and everything.

The actual car. I built everything you can see, stainless coldside reroute, intercooler setup, valve cover mods and catch can etc.

One of the first dyno pulls, with a boost control failure. 14psi here by memory. I didn;t tune this, not my dyno, not even my city.

Are you not surprised it made this power on a 2" press bent catback? It even has the OEM flange for the rear of the cat and the next foot or so is OEM.

Well, I learned something anyway.

What is with this site and getting all catty every time someone doesnt build an MS2, 1.8L with ebay rods, a 2560, and a full 3" exhaust on rx8 injectors. I mean, sure thats an excellent combo, but ****, some people should just untie their panties and take some posts for what they are..

It's a forum wide issue. It genuinely does slow progress and knowledge within the community, what does anyone learn reading about yet another cloned setup..

Dann
ohhh the irony

by the way, people have been running stock/tiny exhaust on these cars for years, so if you're gonna promote new and exciting setups, try to make sure they are actually new and striving to make more power, not less.

Right, and because we are talking about READING POSTS, not setups, perhaps you should count how many times I posted this setup, and see how 'ironic' it really is. (Once, btw, I posted it once)

I assure you I have mimicked this log and downpipe many more times than 2.

I don't have any problem with that setup. People just love to criticize you cause you want attention and praise so much and get so hurt when you don't get it.

BTW I just browsed a few pages of the build section: almost none of the "cookie cutter" setups you seem to think this forum is littered with.

I didn't say it was littered with them, and you know exactly what I meant.

This thread is just one big argument. No body wins. It's a war that never ends and everyone loses. Kind of like how my build thread turned out.

Its a serious problem with MT in general, which should be an amazing site.

You wanna know what's amazing on MT? That a member would build a turbo setup with a small t25, and then build the exhaust setup to INCREASE backpressure and have it spool like a GT70 without any of the power and then gets all butthurt when he doesn't understand that this site actually strives for excellence.

I have OTS parts and make 240tq at ~3.6K and 240hp at ~6.5K with a $150 T3 chinacharger at 13psi.

So no, I'm not impressed it made that amount of power it did, even with a 2" exhaust. I AM impressed, however, the you continue to build the world's slowest spooling turbo setups and continue to be impressed with them.

You're right, I've seen a few members here actually install incredibly huge turbos that spool just a little worse than your t25 setups.

I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I am having a hard time understanding this at all. I thought the NA6 factory exhaust was less than 2". You mention that a portion - but not the entirety - of the exhaust after the neckdown is OEM.

That means that the rest of the exhaust has been modified and is not OEM.

How much more would having a proper exhaust have added? $200 - $400?

That is not about being catty; that question is about a decision that was made that makes almost no sense to anyone else without some sort of explanation.

When weird choices like that are made as part of the build, you should lead with an explanation pre-emptively. "Hey, mates, I know this looks totally knackered, but here's ther reason the owner insisted - despite my recommendations - to do it that way..."

On one hand, you are probably a polarizing figure and there probably is a "criticize first, praise second" mentality on the board.

On the other hand, the dyno chart you posted looks like it was drawn by a kid with crayons and that exhaust setup is one of the weirdest build decisions I've seen in a long time so I'm not really sure what anyone was supposed to learn from that post.

The exhaust i built for the smurf was 2.5". It cost no more than $150 for the non polished SS and flanges. Really the biggest cost was the flanges.

Two things:

1) I really like your worm gear clamps.

2) LOL @ posting a dyno chart in "Shootout Mode."
