If I can find one, I will probably get a Jetta wagon with a TDI and a 5 speed (or a golf or a sedan Jetta if I can't find a wagon) for my next DD/winter car. Right now my 96 MkVIII is still kickin (at 200k miles), but I look forward to going from 18mpg to 40+mpg.

stepped on a scale today, realized i could do with a 10-15 lb loss. Been lazy the past couple months. Any advice for a busy 9-5 work schedule 5 days a week besides morning runs? seems to me running isnt working anymore. weird.

I have realized I have been eating complete crap the past two weeks, but that will stop immediately.

Besides the past two weeks I have only consumed a strict 1900-2000 calories a day, but I probably have a crap load stored. So I guess I am asking is what is the most reasonable boost in weightloss I can do? What are some good supplements? I have never taken any before, I used to keep a healthy 150-165 lbs. by running, pushups and sit ups, but its not working anymore.

That's pretty cool.

The use of PMDC motors is quite a departure from common convention in the large EV world, even at the hobbyist level. But for a system intended to retrofit many different vehicles with a minimum of intrusion into the existing drivetrain, it's extremely clever.

I do have to wonder what all of that unsprung weight will do to handling (in terms of kg/kw, permanent-magnet motors are the heaviest possible solution) but I suppose that in a hybrid conversion of a station wagon, this is a secondary consideration.

If they really are able to hit the sort of price-point they're talking about, and if the system proves reliable and cheap to install and maintain, I can see this going places. $3000 does seem like an unrealistically low number, given that doing a high-performance bicycle conversion can easily cost $1,500, and that's with only one motor, one controller, and a battery with a tiny fraction of the capacity. Still, if they sell it, people will buy it.

What I really want to know is this: will CARB allow such devices to be sold in California without attaining vehicle-specific exemption orders?

2000 calories you are probably gaining weight. Back when I was 130lbs I had weight maintainence at 1300 calories a day. And I exercised.

Do this:

cut ALL refined carbs
add AS MUCH VEGGIES AS POSSIBLE. ridiculous veggies
eat some protein

do crossfit

Screw Insanity, do some sprinting (hill sprints especially if it's convenient), weightlifting (deadlifts, squats, snatches, etc), and some kettlebell work.

But that's for improving your fitness level. If you just want to lose weight, that's 80% diet changes anyway.

I'm just wondering if the package could be made to work around the rear brakes on a Miata. I would be willing to try it.

I can't quite picture how the system could be used as-shown on any vehicle with disc brakes, although something similar to it could be mounted on the inboard side of the axles, using a plate sandwiched between thee CV axle and the stub axle in the diff (assuming 2 piece axles.) This would have the secondary benefit of not adding 50-75 lbs (I'm just guessing) of unsprung weight to each wheel.

Such a system could dramatically improve 0-60 times as well.

Anyone here interested in buying a MK3 Supra LSD w/ carrier? I am trying to get the most out of my donor car before it gets hauled off to the scrap heap.

Any of you deal with rotator cuff issues/pain? Aside from a medical procedure, is there anything that can be done to alleviate symptoms? At least I am assuming my issue is rotator cuff related. It hurts like **** with increasing intensity as I raise my arm straight out from my side, curve my arm inward while extended, or make a circle motion with arm extended horizontal out to my side. I can feel a pop as I rotate or pass a certain point when raising my arm. Like there is a catch. I'm assuming this is the swollen muscle getting in the way and getting snapped out of the way.

Would this be something Glucosamine supplements might help? I've also heard about rehab exercise and/or lifting.

I won't see a doctor about this unless I absolutely have to. I'm pretty sure all he would do is a cortisone shot, and I'm not thrilled about that prospect at all, even if it would help me with the pain and inflammation in my shoulder.

I've lost 50 lbs in the last few years. Went from 215 to a 165, I still have more fat to burn.

NA6C, it could be simple bursitis. Immobilize the arm as much as practical for a couple days. If it is bursitis, it will subside within a short while, and you will not need any medical treatment. I had it when i was a kid (early 20's), and other than a sling for a week, I have had no further problems.

It's a royal pain in the *** to wear a sling for an entire week, though.
