Alright guys, long time no check-in. I’ve recently been thinking about a couple of different projects.

Custom fender liners. My front fender liners were tore up at the track. I’d like to create some, hopefully out of a light weight material that do a proper job of protecting my oil cooler and keeping rain off of my wires that I ran through the fender. Anyone have any input on this? My other thought was to pick up factory replacement ones and mold them with heat to allow better clearance.

Quick release bumper. My bumper has been removed and reinstalled so many times that it’s getting a bit beat looking. Plus, being that I’ll have the car on the track quite a bit this next season, I can only imagine it will be on and off quite frequently. Id like to do something that’s clean and lines up properly. No droopy front ends.

Next project is the ECU. I’m giving the AEM a try out of curiosity. I love the Adaptronic unit but I’m having some issues elsewhere so I’m going to be rebuilding my wiring harness from scratch.

AEM EMS 4
AEM EMS 4 Mini Harness
AEM 2001+ Miata Patch Harness

Let the wiring begin:

You're such an unbelievably smart turd. Seriously dude, judging by how things have gone in the thread so far, you'll probably have the whole damn car re-wired in like a day.

In for results on how you like AEM over Adaptronic. And more track footage.

I am curious as to what issues are you having with the Adaptronic. I'm surprised you didn't go with a Reverant built MSx instead.

ABS for fender liners, light, formable, cheap.

Removable bumper, how baller do you want to spend? DeZues are cheap, and easy to get but need some bracketry made for the bumper to fender connection. Quik-Latch are baller. Aerocatch even more so, but the aerocatch 3 is too big for our bumpers.

Lots of rally cars are treated with custom fender liners. Most of them use UHMW or HDPE. I've seen aluminium used as well, which I don't like since it could shred a tire if it became detached or severely deformed.

Here's one rendition of it: DIY Indestructable Wheel Well Liners!! - DirtyImpreza Forums I know that site has a number of other examples as well.

More progress on the harness. I have not had a whole lot of time lately but I stopped by and removed the harness from the engine bay. I disconnected it from the ECU, clipped all of the ties under the dash and pulled everything through the firewall.

My plan is to basically clip all of the connectors off and rewire the entire setup. All proper lengths, no extra connections that are not being used and very solid connections. I started to strip away the factory tape and goo that held the factory harness together. Pretty overwhelmingly shitty material. My hands were black.

In need of a proper way to label my connectors I headed to office max. I didn’t want to use my shitty handwriting so I picked up a label maker and came up with a neat way to attach it.

I ran small heat shrink on the end of the connector, then applied my label, then used two smaller pieces of shrink tubing to secure the ends of the label.

I think it came out great.

Picked up a few different colors to get me started, I’ll document each color and add it to my spreadsheet of connections to be made.

Jesus, my car would never run again if I tried pulling all the wiring out. Great work man, incredible.

That should be the only way to label a harness. Have you gotten the labels hot yet? You might get some wrinkling or worse.

If it hasn't happened yet, I'm goin to make engine bay labels..

Just FYI: Did these same exact labels on my COPs harness. Get them hot, they turn brown and become unreadable. Get them near a lighter and you will see what I mean
