Im pretty sure its your rings. My dads honda burned a valve and after rebuilding the head with new valve seals it started smoking its *** off. Every time we pulled the plugs it had oil sitting on top the piston like that. After we replaced the valve seals 3 times we figured out it had to be the rings. We reringed it and havent had a problem since.

I agree, having inspected the seals, that rings art the next most likely(only?) cause. I have to talk to mike(the other half owner)and see what he wants to do. Im thinking rings, bearings, rehone, CX rods... win at failing.

Will do when I get home, weather permitting.

Engine has 0 miles since last comp test, so this should be interesting.

I did this cold since intake and exhaust are off
1- 170
2- 175
3- 175
4- 170
5-10 psi better than the previous test, which was done with engine warmed up. The sea foam kinda cleaned the pistons, or washed away the oil and drained through the rings over night, so there wasnt that much oil in there, im guessing anyway. Actually the top of the pistons are the driest ive seen them yet.

Thoughts?

I would completely agree with you if there wasnt the possibility that the oil issue is making the number artificially better.

Wouldn't a leakdown test show a more definitive answer? Although I'm not sure how much of the motor you have apart.

Leakdown test and if you hear wooshy noises from the oil fill hole then you'll know for sure!

Definitely sucks that it's not going according to plan though.

I don't have a leak down set up. Do you have one Aaron?

If you're in a pinch this works. I don't have one.

Still have 5 speed. Want to loan me your 6?

I wonder what this little TD04 would make on a 1.6 running all of it.

This does put my mind at ease a little knowing ill never have to worry about rods again. I wonder how cheap we can get away with doing this. We are aiming for under $500, I dont think well have any problem hitting that goal.

All the aftermarket rods are floating pin style.

From what ive researched, 1.6 uses non floating, while 1.8 uses floating pins.

So you cant do a rods only 1.6 can you?

******* damit!

Edit: looks like I was wrong. thank google images. Whew!

So, anyone know where I can get replacement pin circlips? They usually arnt supposed to be reused.

Also being a 90, 5 speed from the factory I have the 4mm oil ring as opposed to the 3mm on the automatics, correct?

The rods can be the same and still one is floating, the piston(grooves or no grooves in the bore) and pin diameter determine that.

I just had a scare as I came across an old thread on here from a trusted member saying only the 1.8s are floating style. I was about to rage.
