President Trump announced today that he would suspend the new tariffs on Mexican goods for 30 days to allow time for negotiation between the two countries. Trump said part of the negotiations included Mexico sending 10,000 soldiers to the U.S. border immediately to help stop illegal migration and fentanyl trafficking.
Wow, that knee bent very quickly under the threat of a 25% tariff. I bet we could get Mexico to build their own wall pretty quickly if we asked nicely and carried a big stick.

It's hard to get away from it. Remember this election is the most important election that you will ever vote in until the next most important election that you will ever vote in until the next most important election that you'll ever vote in...
A big problem is everyone has TDS and simply just can't stay out of it and push it into everywhere and on to everything.
You really just have to watch your sources. I went down a crazy spiral in 2020 after the election was stolen. I believed a lot of things people were saying is Gospel and I just sounded like a moron.
But I was right about almost every single thing I said about covid at least.
Honestly that's how I'm feeling right now. I got sucked into all the headlines and hype. Definitely has been a case of, "The more you know, the more you realize you don't know" for me. I was randomly watching old SNL skits this weekend and some sketches from older election debates came up in the playlist. The debate topics that they were joking about sounded about the same as current day.

I realize that's a pretty ill informed opinion now, and that detention centers for illegal immigrants are nothing new. Again, just an example of getting sucked into the engagement/rage bait. Having said that, my views on the deportations are unchanged.
I appreciate the level headed responses, because I feel like I've acted like a bit of a buffoon lately.

It really should, IMO of course. Two things can bu true at the same time:
1) Illegal immigrants should be deported back to where they originated (Back to where they came from just sounds so bigoted, it's wild how stereotypes can influence things like that).
2) The citizenship process needs HUGE reform and those who's only crimes were being here illegally, without any other charges/convictions (the one who were truly looking for a better life for themselves) should be fast-tracked to proper citizenship status.
The media/politicians/talking heads/et al (paging Joe for an eye roll) has done a TREMENDOUS job over the past decade or so of associating immigrants with "ILLEGAL immigrants" that most people can't even process the difference. I'm 100% all for any race/gender/religion/creed looking to come to America to become an American, to assimilate into our nation and culture. ****, bring me patriotic North Koreans in DROVES, I'd love to straight-up swap them for some liberal college kids.
I just don't want the criminals, the convicts, the released prisoners from Venezuela. People who want to come here and make America like where they fled. I'm seeing a **** load of Hispanics protesting ICE while waiving Mexican flags? They love their country and heritage so much that they don't want to go back there? Then WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Expanding on that, I guess my opinions haven't changed so far because I simply haven't gotten around to doing more research on the topic.
I agree with you that, from what I've heard, the process for becoming a legal citizen is convoluted and due for a refresh. I also don't want criminals/gangs/dangerous people here, regardless of their citizenship status.

Clinton and Obama campaigned on it.
if you listened to their campaign speeches today, you'd think you were listening to an articulate Trump.

I disagree. They are diluting what it means to be a US citizen., **** them if they came here illegally. They should have no rights and no consideration. None.

I have some friends who are immigrants. They all came in through the front door - from Romania, Brazil, Ghana, Haiti, maybe others. They all make Trump sound like Mother Teresa talking about the illegals. It pisses them off royally that the new guys get everything that they had to work so hard for.
The guy from Brazil became a US citizen about 5 years ago. He came to tell me and the wife in person - he was so proud that I was too.
And that's the problem with illegal immigration. It undermines legal immigration.
I live in south FL and work in the construction industry and was born in a shithole country and came here legally 46 years ago, so you can say I speak with quite a bit of first hand experience in the matter.
Letting anyone and everyone in is not the answer. Your country wants the immigrants that want to be here, that want to be Americans. You don't want the kind that wants to suck its resources and send everything they make back home. As I said, I have plenty of experience with this.
Just with the Cubans. They come here claiming asylum. As soon as they're papers allow them re-entry, they fly back to Cuba, spend all they have (benevolently or not) and come back to the States to do it all over again once they have the money. That is not asylum. That is not immigrating. And longtime actual Cuban refugees will tell you this country does not need those types of immigrants.
My good buddy is a captain for the Arlington Police. HE now has PTSD and a look in his eyes like he saw 60+ bodies in multiple pieces scattered in the Potomac...
The legal basis for the Executive Order is somewhat... shaky.
The US Constitution states that the President "shall take care that the Laws be faithfully executed," and it has been generally upheld that the Executive Order is the mechanism which permits them to do this.
In recent years, however, the EO has been increasingly used to effectively create new laws, or circumvent existing ones, which is not the thing which the President is authorized to do.
Obviously there needs to be some mechanism in place which permits the President to take the necessary actions required of his office, without turning him into a King who is able to entirely bypass the Legislature. (I seem to recall that there was a Star Wars parody about this in the late 90s.)
One such option would be to require that the Executive Actions of the President be ratified by a majority of the Congress within some period of time, or else they shall expire.
