the coils dont click down, they've just got a spring. mine sit a few mm above the valve cover too but I verified that even still, they sit as low as the OEM boots.

That stinks.

Guess I'm just gonna have to dig in on my 99. Am I going to have any issues due to the difference in dwell between the Toyota coils and the 99 ECU settings?

Hard to say. I thought you were going MS, considering you have that thread on m.net?

I probably will eventually, but have not purchased it yet. I'm thinking in the spring. All depends on how other things go (finances).

O.K. just a little update. There is no spark. I get +12v and ground - no problem. I plugged some old plug-wires into the new coils and the engine. Nothing!

So I suppose this is it. I haven't got a clue why this doesn't work on the '99 cars. I'm done with this cop things and keep my magnecore 8mm wires.

I sell my unfinished kit over here... if there isn't a quick and uncomplicated solution.

Just FYI, using a Flyin Miata Link ECU, requires the 1K-ohm pull up resistor like the Megasquirt.

That's only on the 1.6, correct?

I'm not sure about the 1.8L Link ECU's, since I have the 1.6L MK2 Link ECU. But in this case, I had to use a pull-up resistor for the 1.6L MK2 Link ECU in order to get the Tach working.

Well, I installed the cops today. Have any of you experienced hesitation and rough idle when you installed them? I checked all the connections and they seem fine. Also, when I put it under load it seems to bog down. Any ideas?

I did the COP to try to cure what appeared to be a bad spark plug cable. The engine ran on 3 cylinders 90% of the time.

upon firing up the car, with the COP setup, it still ran on 3 cylinders.

Even after cleaning and regapping the plugs, it still didn't help.

In desparation, I bought 4 new spark plugs seriously doubting that it would work since spark plugs don't have any moving parts and regapping them should have fixed any problems, so I thought.

Swapped out all 4 plugs, and the car fired up and ran perfect.

Go figure.

That's good to know, as there are people on m.net having problems with their 99s. I'll be doing mine in a few weeks.

No, there's ONE person having problems. And he refuses to believe that it's his wiring.

I wish I had a '99, cause I'd get it to work just to prove him dumb.

THAT guy is running fine after adding some grounds and then adding a MSPNP.
I'm talking about our built NA 99 friend.

Well, dear Ben and Braineck it's not only one, its two... me included. (O.K. mine is a 1,6 99) And yes I did check the wiring once, twice, triple... it's not the wiring. And another yes - I got good solid ground.

And now...? More of the check the wiring ?
