Anyone know if the earlier BP oil pans are different than the NB ones?

From what I read you either need 01+ oil pan and MBSP, or early oil pan without MBSP.

Basically this in reverse: https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-pe...28/#post958611

That does help a little, just knowing that the MBSP is different for '01+.

What Andrew said makes me wonder what's actually in my engine. I wonder if he dumped the MBSP? He said it won't clear ARP hardware without significant machining, and my engine should have ARP hardware.

Josh, what are the chances you can drop my pan and have a look at what's on there now? I'm gonna replace it, just need to know what to replace it with...

Oh and this clears up that MSM pans have MBSP's too. The other thread only mentioned VVT/01+.

Wait isn't that the stock MSM return line port? Which means you have the MSM pan and MBSP?

If you get an older pan you just need to ditch the MBSP and you are good to go.

If you want a non mbsp pan, I have a couple spares that are taking up space.

IIRC the "machining" required to put ARP hardware on mbsp is just enlarging a few holes.

You need the baffle for whatever 1.8 pan you buy. Clearance get for main studs only requires 8 holes drilled and dremeled a little bit. It's a msm pan, so I'm assuming a msm/vvt mbsp. Keep that current mbsp, and find a 01+ oil pan, that's NOT from a msm. Then we can have a proper NPT bung welded up front, and have room for a drain line.

So maybe I should just get that eBay pan and then I can always re-sell the MBSP. Yes?

I thought the MBSP was useless. Or thats what the other thread said. So I guess cheapest option would be the cheapest 1.8 pan you can find. One that is already cleaned would save money.

MBSP is useless, BTW. Not strong enough to hold the motor together, and won't clear ARP studs without significant machining. You're better off just using a '99 pan/tray.

Different discussion, we were discussing the usefulness of the MBSP.

Ben. You're awesome. I very well may need that bit of assistance. I'll let you know once I get the pan.

Vlad sent me the timing cover. He is my favorite. Propped.

I haven't gotten G's package yet but I await the filthy contents of VVT oil line and a dirty pan from Gesso.

But wait, what's this?

for what it's worth, I found another difference between 949's BBK and TSE's... I believe Andrew assembles the rotors to the hats with nifty safety wiring and such if I'm not mistaken. This kit from 949 does not include that work. Honestly if I had known that I would have probably paid the extra for the kit from TSE EXCEPT... due to my previous order I'm on club orange so the price difference would have been pretty huge.

Either way, I'm really excited to get all this stuff going. Bought a work bench and vise so I have a place to work while doing the bushings. I hope to start on those this weekend. Hope. Still feeling overwhelmed, but I'm not going to give up, and due to the addition of the S2k I'm not in a huge rush on the Miata because I'll have something really fun to drive in the meantime.
